Dear Parents,
Thank you for the pumpkin donations. On Wednesday, the children enjoyed a morning of pumpkin activities- problem solving, estimating and graphing, elapsed time, and multiplication. The tombstones on Friday created a backdrop for saying goodbye to overused words in our writing. The dead words had a nice (scratch "nice"- it has been buried) uplifting departure. Daylight Savings Time Sunday morning we fall back. So we will see your sweet child bright eyed and bushy tailed at 6:20- I mean the new 7:20 on Monday. Cookout We had a wonderful cookout. Thank you for attending. A big thank you to Mr.Kasson for being our Grill Master!! Reading Buddies Your child met their buddy today. They got to know each other by filling out a Get To Know You sheet. 4th graders are responsible for bringing age appropriate books to read to their buddy the first Friday of the month. Friday, November 7th is the first Friday, so have your child look through their old books and chose some to read to their 1st grade buddy. Students are not allowed to check out books from the library for buddies. Mentor Poem Due Monday The mentor poem should be typed or handwritten on plain white paper. Make sure to include the poem’s title and author. Also include a significant border that illustrates the poem. Examples will be shared in class. Finally, the mentor poem needs to be memorized by Monday, December 1st. Students will recite their mentor poem during Coffee House Poetry on December 4th from 10-10:45. Reading Response Logs: Instead of logs, please initial planner each night that your child has read 20 minutes. Your child should be reading some poetry and creating poems for his/her Book of Poetry. Please make sure your child is working in their Google Drive Poetry Folder. Character Trait for November: Generosity It is Monday, November 3rd--the first "school day" of the month and time to change our character word for the month! Our character word for November is GENEROSITY!! We celebrate Thanksgiving in November and the last half of that word is GIVING. Being generous or "giving" means that you give your time, your kindness, or your possessions to other people without expecting anything in return. You do it because you enjoy giving to others. In November, if your teacher sees you being generous, then you will get a sticker to wear all day so that other students will know that you demonstrated our Character Word of the Month!
