GEOGRAPHY BEE POSTPONED
due to RRISD canceling all events before noon tomorrow. Happy Birthday Esteban!!! Welcome Katie!! Dear Parents, Happy New Year! A big thank you to Mrs. Clark for ending the 2014 school year with a fabulous party and making our holiday so bright! Now, it is on to 2015, with new learning discoveries and the start of a wonderful semester. I hope the time off from school during winter break allowed more time to relax and enjoy your friends and family. SCHOOL SUPPLIES: This is also a great time to re-fresh your child’s supply of crayons, glue sticks, markers, tape and sharpened pencils. Many students have misplaced some crayons and markers and most of them have used up their glue sticks and the eraser on their pencils! Please put your child's name on crayons and markers. SCIENCE FAIR: On Tuesday, 4th graders spent the entire day learning to solve a scientific question. Our scientific question was: “Can a human be a battery” Each group had a different job to create the science fair board to be displayed on Science Night, January 22. This was an exciting learning opportunity that challenged each student! They are so looking forward to sharing our class experiment with you. Hope to see everyone at Science Night. NEW YEAR, NEW READING: Our new nightly reading homework was explained and modeled this week in class. There is an example with reading response sentence starters in your child’s homework folder. Thank you for reading their response letters and signing the final copy. Our class is enjoying reading There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom. NIGHT WRITES: January Night Writes are due on January 27th. Please continue to encourage your child to put forth great effort in completing the entire writing process. Our goal is to produce life-long writers, and it is so rewarding to see the students grow as writers. For this month they need to take an expository prompt through the planning stage and a narrative through the full process. MULTICULTURAL FAIR: The school's 9th Annual Multicultural Fair is set for Friday, March 27th from 5:30-8:30 p.m. If you've never attended before, you're in for a treat. For one night, the school hallways will be converted into a colorful array of booths from cultures around the world. In the cafeteria, you can dine on international fare while watching spectacular performances on the stage. Click on the link below for more information or to sign up to represent your culture. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0445abae29ab9-march. The Informational meeting will be Wednesday, January 7th – 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. in the Parent Resource Center. CHARACTER: Our character word for January is SELF-DISCIPLINE! Self-discipline means that we do what has to be done--even when we don't feel like doing it. Doing homework, helping at home with chores, exercising even when it is cold outside--all of these things require self- discipline! CHARACTER COUNTS AT CANYON CREEK!! REPORT CARDS: Report cards will be coming home next Tuesday. Please sign one copy and return to school in the brown envelope.
